
European Commission moves to improve the global competitiveness of the European car industry
The European Commission has proposed greater flexibility on carbon dioxide emission standards for producers of new cars and vans. The changes will allow carmakers to average their performance on meeting emission reduction targets between 2025 and 2027.
This proposal was announced as part of the Commission's Industrial Action Plan for the European automotive sector, adopted on 5 March 2025.
