The new package aims to reduce Russia's revenues from energy exports and further limit its ability to finance the war. Key energy-related measures include:
⚡ maintaining pressure on Russian oil exports by keeping the current oil price cap mechanism in place until July 2027,
⚡ expanding sanctions on energy-related infrastructure, including additional ports, airports, and refineries processing Russian crude oil,
⚡ tightening controls on LNG trade, including the sale of LNG tankers and the operation of LNG terminals,
⚡ imposing sanctions on 41 additional vessels belonging to the so-called "shadow fleet", which has been used to circumvent restrictions on Russian oil exports.
These measures are part of the EU's long-term strategy to reduce Russia's energy revenues, strengthen the effectiveness of sanctions, and enhance Europe's energy security.
